PSNH SCM: Susanne Larkham, NHPSA

Artist Statement:

My eye-candy compositions echo my high ideals--I see the world as a symphony of movement, music & vibrant color. This particular pursuit of happiness pairs perfectly with the intense pigment in soft pastels imbuing a surreal idealism to my contemporary representational paintings.

Bio:
Susanne holds a BS in Secondary Art & Math Education from Taylor University.  Instead of teaching,  she opted for small business marketing, then management and ultimately ownership (2007-present.) In 2013, Larkham was drawn back into the realm of fine art through volunteering through an opportunity to become a docent & art educator for the Currier Museum of Art in Manchester, NH and their annual staff art exhibit proved to be the creative call to action. It was upon visiting PSNH's It's Pastel! our National Juried Art Exhibit in '17 that Susanne was inspired to try something new. Susanne joined PSNH January '18 and joined the board of Directors as the webmaster in July 2018. Within her first year of painting with pastels, her painting, The Early Bird, was juried into the very same national exhibit that inspired her! Her work has since won the People's Choice Award 2 years in a row!

Susanne is self-taught and brings a unique approach to her pastel work. She describes her style as surreal idealism and/or colorist abstracted reality.  She loves all aspects of the arts tapping into her musical theater days to motivate and entertain her students teaching fitness classes both via livestream and at her dance studio, Bellami Fitness--which is also the home of her "Pop-Up" art gallery: On a Lark Fine Art.
