2024 Jeri Greenberg 2-Day Workshop
The Power of Pastels
Come play & paint with me to find your passion with this wonderfully vibrant medium. We will Explore new surfaces & Try New Ideas.
Each day will start with a demo and exercises to get ready, and plenty of time for Q&A throughout the day.
In this 2-day workshop:
Day 1: We will explore what makes a good still life, from the setting one up, to the dramatic lighting and the composition of your painting.
THEN we will spend the day painting these lovelies! One object or multiple objects, your choice! But each one will tell a story/your story; and invite your viewer to love these ordinary objects that are now EXTRAordinary paintings!
Day 2: We will encompass putting a figure into a setting! It's NOT HARD! We will talk about proportions, values, colors and everything about the scene that drew you into painting it. I will supply photos of figures in an urban setting to work from, or bring one of your own if you wish.

A good variety of hard, medium and soft pastels. There are all different brands at all different prices. Some of my favorites are:
NuPastels or Cretacolor – HARD
Jack Richeson half sticks, Girault – MEDIUM
Terry Ludwick and Blue Earth - SOFT
* Pastel Pencils are always welcome as well
Paper also is a personal choice as pastels work on smooth and sanded surfaces and everything in between.
Bring a VARIETY of surfaces as well as colors. I work on primarily DARK paper made by UART or PastelMat . Do not use white unless using it for a preliminary sketch or for underpainting. When I work on the light UART, I do an underpainting or I tint the sheet.
*Pastels and Papers can be ordered online if there is not a good art supply source in your area. Save on shipping charges by ordering a lot and with a friend! ;-)check out DakotaPastels.com, Jerry’sArtarama, DickBlick, Amazon etc. Give yourself time for shipping!

Jeri Greenberg, IAPS-MP
After many years as a fashion illustrator and sportswear designer, Jeri turned her love of graphic design towards advertising for a while. Having time to devote herself to painting again - and falling in love with the pastel medium - has led to a new and interesting “next act” as full time painter and teacher.
Feeling that "pastels are an immediate tool to express feelings" and the the perfect way to both "make the ordinary extraordinary" and tell stories in her paintings, Jeri works to constantly get a deeper understanding of this wonderful medium. With her background in illustration, Jeri helps her students get a strong drawing foundation down behind their color work. Jeri loves painting still life, urban interiors, figures and fabrics, and the occasional landscape.
Jeri is an official Unison Colour Associate Artist. Recently relocated, Jeri teaches weekly classes at the Cameron Art Museum in Wilmington NC, and does demos and workshops around the country, as well as jurying pastel exhibits. She is represented by Water + Color Gallery, Art in Bloom Gallery and is a featured artist at Protocol in Wilmington, NC.
