2022 It's Pastel! PSNH Juried National Exhibition

It is our pleasure to share with you our exciting National Exhibition! In addition to this virtual page, the 2022 show is on display at Discover Portsmouth! It is a joy to see the works in person, and we highly encourage a visit if you are in the vicinity. And for those who live a distance, we are pleased to bring you this online celebration of great work in the pastel arts.

This year's Juror of Selection was Gail Sibley. As we had over 225 entries, she was tasked with selecting only 79 to be included in this year's show.  From the 79 works, our Juror of Awards, Alain Picard designated 26 works to receive this year's awards totaling nearly $6000!  We also have 2 awards chosen by Gail Sibley, and 1 to be selected by you, The People's Choice! Voting will close November 15th!

Below is our gallery showcasing all accepted pieces. If you click on any piece, it will open into a slide gallery with larger images.

Kudos on a job well done to Shuk Susan Lee, Show Chair; Keith Demanche, co-chair; and to Susanne Larkham, Webmaster. All of the works in the exhibit are available for purchase!  Please contact Shuk (suel404@gmail.com) or Keith (hauntedmilk@gmail.com) directly and they will assist in connecting the buyer to the artist.

BEST OF SHOW

Great art makes us feel strongly. This painting aches with feelings of coming to the end of something. The way the stalks of these dying flowers rise into the picture plane framed by airy negative space. Krajcik has created a grand and powerful image. The warm golds and pale whites against rich blue gradations of sky keep the palette focused and the mood poignant. The wispy edges and textural elements are beautifully described to bring depth, intimacy, and interest to this grouping. A cluster of terrestrial shapes, like an endangered species, release their petals in a final voyage onward. What an accomplishment to imbue the work with such emotion.
